Background:
About a week ago, I submitted a FOIA request to the FBI seeking access to unreleased 9/11 footage, particularly any amateur, civilian, or non-official recordings collected by law enforcement agencies. The goal was to uncover any lesser-known or completely unseen video material related to the World Trade Center attacks and their aftermath.
Initial Response from the FBI:
I recently received a response from the FBI stating that they had completed their review of records related to my request. They directed me to their public FOIA Library, The Vault, where they claimed to have posted available video footage.
After searching, I was able to locate 10 video files under their 9/11 Videos section, which you can view here:
However, these videos are well-known recordings that have been in circulation for years. Unfortunately, they don’t appear to provide anything significantly new or previously unseen.
Next Steps & Further Inquiry:
Despite this, the FBI’s response did confirm that:
Additional records may exist in their Central Records System (CRS).
Some processed records were not posted in The Vault and can still be requested.
Because of this, I have now followed up with the FBI to:
Request a full records search in their CRS database for any additional video footage.
Formally ask for access to the processed but unreleased video files they mentioned.
Clarify whether higher-quality, raw, or uncompressed versions of any known footage exist.
What This Means:
At this point, I am waiting for a response regarding these additional materials. If the FBI acknowledges the existence of further footage, I will request access to as much of it as possible. There’s still a possibility that new or lesser-known recordings exist but haven’t been made available yet.
